Internet usage in Türkiye reaches 90.9% in 2025, TurkStat reports

The proportion of individuals using the internet in Türkiye reached 90.9% in 2025, up from 88.8% in 2024 for the 16-74 age group, according to a statement released Wednesday by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).
Digital Services and E-Government
The report highlighted that 76.1% of individuals used e-government services in the past 12 months. Usage was higher among males at 82.8%, compared to 69.5% for females. By age, the 25-34 group recorded the highest usage at 92.8%, while only 29.6% of those aged 65-74 accessed these services.
Among the purposes of using e-government platforms, accessing personal information stored by public authorities was the most common (68.5%), followed by making appointments or reservations (53.6%) and obtaining information from public authorities (46.4%).
Growth in E-Commerce
The proportion of individuals buying or ordering goods or services online rose to 55.7% in 2025, up from 51.7% in 2024. Males led in online purchases at 59.1%, compared to 52.3% for females. In the first three months of 2025, 42.3% of internet users purchased goods or services online.
However, 29% of e-commerce users reported problems, primarily slow delivery (12.7%) or receiving wrong or damaged items (11.8%).
Online Learning and Digital Tools
The report also indicated a rise in online learning activities, with 17.7% of individuals engaging in educational, professional, or private learning online, up 3.9 percentage points from the previous year. Usage was nearly equal between males (17.5%) and females (18.0%).
In terms of digital identification, 15.6% of internet users reported using electronic IDs to access online services, with higher usage among males (18.0%) than females (13.3%).
Social Media Trends
Messaging and social media applications continue to dominate online activity in Türkiye. WhatsApp remained the most widely used platform at 88.6%, followed by YouTube at 72.9% and Instagram at 68.1%. Male users led in WhatsApp usage at 91.3% and YouTube at 75.7%, while females were slightly higher in Instagram use at 67.4% compared to males at 68.7%.

Overall, the TurkStat report underscores Türkiye’s steady growth in digital connectivity, e-government adoption, e-commerce participation, and online learning, reflecting the country’s continued investment in internet infrastructure and digital services. (ILKHA)
