6.0 magnitude earthquake hits Mediterranean Sea near southwestern Türkiye
A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck the Mediterranean Sea early Wednesday, approximately 155.06 kilometers (96.3 miles) off the coast of Datca district in Türkiye’s southwestern Mugla province, according to Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
The quake occurred at a depth of 20.41 kilometers (12.6 miles), AFAD reported. Mugla Governor Idris Akbiyik stated that field scans are underway, adding: “No negative situation has been reported so far,” in a post on X.
Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum also confirmed that initial assessments indicate no damage. “Fieldwork continues,” Kurum noted on X.
