51 irregular migrants apprehended in Türkiye’s Çanakkale
A total of 51 irregular migrants and two suspected migrant smugglers were apprehended in six operations targeting migrant smuggling activities in Türkiye’s northwestern Çanakkale province.
According to a statement by the Çanakkale Governor’s Office, the operations were carried out between 18 and 24 September by teams from the Provincial Gendarmerie Command’s Branch for Combating Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking.
During the operations, security forces apprehended two suspected organisers along with 51 irregular migrants.
A rubber boat and a boat engine believed to have been used for illegal crossings were also seized and placed in a trustee parking facility.
Following the completion of legal procedures, the irregular migrants were transferred to the Irregular Migration Preliminary Admission and Referral Centre (GÖKSEM).
Administrative procedures regarding the two suspects are continuing.
