Two crew members were injured after a tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unidentified object, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said.

According to UKMTO, military authorities reported that the incident occurred while the tanker was following its approach route toward port near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.

The unidentified object struck the vessel, leaving two crew members with minor injuries.

UKMTO said the tanker remained operational after the incident and continued to its next port under its own power.

No pollution or other environmental damage has been reported, while authorities have launched an investigation to determine the nature of the object and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following the latest incident, UKMTO advised all vessels operating in the area to exercise extreme caution and immediately report any suspicious activity or security-related incidents.

The attack comes three days after another tanker in the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unidentified object, triggering a fire on board. In that incident, all crew members were reported safe.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most strategically important maritime chokepoints, with around 20 per cent of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments passing through the waterway, making security incidents in the area a matter of international concern.
