Delegations from Afghanistan and Turkmenistan held a two-day meeting in the western Afghan city of Herat to discuss ways to strengthen transit and transport cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

The talks focused on measures to facilitate the issuance of visas for Afghan and Turkmen drivers and traders, as well as improving cross-border transportation procedures.

Officials also discussed the Lapis Lazuli Transit Corridor, a major regional trade route linking Afghanistan with Turkmenistan and onward to the Caspian Sea and Europe.

Another key issue was the movement of transit vehicles between the two countries. The delegations considered measures aimed at facilitating the free movement of trucks and other transit vehicles and reducing obstacles faced by transport operators.

The discussions also covered several other issues related to transportation and transit cooperation, with both sides exploring ways to improve cross-border connectivity and facilitate trade.

The meeting reflects ongoing efforts by Afghanistan and Turkmenistan to expand economic and transport links and strengthen Afghanistan’s role in regional transit networks. (ILKHA)
