Türkiye, Oman strengthen strategic ties with new agreements

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq at Al Alam Palace in Muscat on Thursday, cementing a partnership aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation and addressing regional challenges.
The talks, which included closed-door discussions and delegation-level meetings, culminated in the signing of multiple agreements, underscoring a shared commitment to enhancing economic, strategic, and cultural ties .
The leaders reviewed historical relations and explored avenues to deepen cooperation in energy, trade, defense, and technology. A key outcome was the advancement of a $500 million joint investment fund, established during Sultan Haitham’s visit to Türkiye in 2024, designed to boost bilateral trade and investment. President Erdoğan’s delegation included senior ministers overseeing foreign affairs, energy, defense, and trade, highlighting the comprehensive scope of the dialogue.
In a symbolic gesture, President Erdoğan presented Sultan Haitham with Türkiye’s domestically produced electric vehicle, TOGG, showcasing Turkish innovation and aligning with broader discussions on technology transfer and industrial collaboration. The signing ceremony followed talks, though specific details of the agreements were not immediately disclosed. Earlier accords between the two nations have spanned health, culture, agriculture, and SME development.
The meeting also addressed regional issues, including the ongoing conflict in Gaza, with both leaders emphasizing the need for diplomatic solutions. Oman, recognized for its neutral diplomacy, and Türkiye discussed potential collaboration on logistics corridors, such as the Iraqi-Turkish "Development Road," which could integrate Omani ports to connect Asia, Europe, and Africa. The visit concluded President Erdoğan’s three-nation Gulf tour, reinforcing Ankara’s broader strategy to strengthen ties with Gulf Cooperation Council states.
The Muscat summit marks a significant step in Omani-Turkish relations, building on centuries of historical ties and a modern partnership grounded in mutual economic and strategic interests.
