Martyr Abdusselam İrdem remembered with prayers in Hilvan

A commemoration ceremony was held at the grave of Abdusselam İrdem in Apaydın (Heqêç) village, located in the Hilvan district of Şanlıurfa, to honor the martyr who lost his life in the 1990s due to torture suffered while in custody in Diyarbakır.
The event, held on the anniversary of his martyrdom, drew a diverse group of attendees, including HÜDA PAR Şanlıurfa Provincial Chairman Faruk Polat, activists, representatives of civil society organizations, politicians, volunteers, and numerous citizens.
The commemoration commenced after the afternoon prayer at the Apaydın Village Mosque, with participants gathering at the village cemetery. Women also took part in the ceremony, joining in the prayers for the martyr.
The event began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Ismail Şiban. Researcher and writer Osman Gülebak then delivered a speech, reflecting on Abdusselam İrdem’s life, struggle, and martyrdom. Gülebak highlighted İrdem’s unwavering commitment, stating, “İrdem took a faithful stand against the oppressive regime and never backed down in the face of any pressure for the sake of his faith.”
The commemoration concluded with a prayer led by Abdullah Zengin. Following the ceremony, attendees visited İrdem’s grave, where they offered additional prayers in his memory.
