Yetimler Vakfı (Orphans Foundation) has appealed to philanthropists to help restore a damaged madrasa in a refugee camp in Bangladesh, where around 130 Muslim children displaced from Arakan are receiving their education.

The foundation, which carries out humanitarian relief activities in the region, visited the camp to assess the needs of refugees firsthand and deliver assistance provided by philanthropists.

During the visit, Yetimler Vakfı General Coordinator Cemil Cahit Ünsal highlighted the difficult conditions facing refugees, particularly the challenges affecting children’s education.

He said the roof of the madrasa, which had previously served approximately 130 students, was blown off by heavy rain and strong winds, leaving the building severely damaged.

With the facility now in poor condition, children are struggling to continue their education in a safe and suitable environment.

Describing the humanitarian situation in the camp as extremely difficult, Ünsal said refugees are in need of support across almost every area of daily life.

“Here, the needs are truly very, very great. There is a need for everything, absolutely everything,” he said.

Pointing to the damaged madrasa, Ünsal explained that the facility was previously used by around 130 students but was left in a severely deteriorated condition after its roof was destroyed by the harsh weather.

He called on philanthropists to contribute to the renovation of the building, saying even small donations could help restore the madrasa and allow the children to resume their education.

“This place needs renovation so that the children of our Muslim brothers and sisters here can receive a better education,” Ünsal said.

“If everyone makes a financial contribution and donates within their means, the construction of this madrasa will be carried out, it will be repaired, and our children here will be able to continue their education again,” he added.

As part of its humanitarian activities, Yetimler Vakfı also delivered Qurans donated by philanthropists to children studying at the madrasa.

The Qurans were distributed to students during a visit to the damaged educational facility, providing the children with religious educational materials alongside the foundation’s wider relief efforts.

“In addition, we are distributing the Qurans donated by our philanthropists to the children and students studying at the madrasa,” Ünsal said.

The foundation said it would continue its humanitarian efforts in Bangladesh, focusing on the needs of displaced families and children while supporting access to education and essential assistance in the refugee camps. (ILKHA)
