One killed, two injured in overnight Russian attack on Kyiv
A Russian attack on Kyiv overnight killed one person and injured two others after a strike damaged a 25-story residential building in the capital’s Darnytskyi district, Ukrainian authorities said early Friday.
The Kyiv City Military Administration said the residential building was damaged during the overnight attack, with a fire breaking out on the 24th and 25th floors.
One person was killed and two others were injured, according to the authorities.
Russian forces also struck Kyiv’s Southern Bridge overnight, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said, a day after the key crossing was hit repeatedly by Russian drones.
The Southern Bridge and Paton Bridge were closed in both directions following the latest attack, while the Metro Bridge was closed toward Kyiv’s right bank, according to the Kyiv City Military Administration.
Several bus routes were diverted through the Darnytskyi and Podilskyi bridges because of the restrictions.
There were no reports that the Paton Bridge or Metro Bridge had been directly hit.
The latest strikes followed repeated Russian attacks on Kyiv on Wednesday. Russian drones hit the Southern Bridge several times, damaging parts of the roadway, a bridge support, a guardrail and a protective concrete structure surrounding a metro line.
The damage disrupted metro and surface transportation across the bridge.
Kyiv has come under repeated Russian attacks in recent days. A large-scale Russian missile and drone barrage that began on Sept. 30 killed four people and injured at least eight others, while damaging residential buildings and energy infrastructure in the capital.
The latest attack adds to a series of strikes that have caused casualties and disrupted transport and essential infrastructure in Kyiv. (ILKHA)
