A passenger train derailed after colliding with a truck at a railway crossing in central Poland, leaving one person dead and 19 others injured, authorities said.

The accident occurred in the Sokolniki Suche area of the Mazowieckie region when a PKP Intercity train traveling from Lublin to Szczecin collided with a truck at a level crossing. The train was carrying around 120 passengers at the time of the crash.

Emergency services initially reported that 20 people were injured, including four in serious condition. One of the seriously injured victims later died, bringing the death toll to one and the number of injured to 19.

Among those seriously injured were the train driver, the truck driver and two passengers, according to emergency officials.

Rescue teams responded at the scene and transported injured passengers to hospitals.

Following the crash, railway traffic between Wolanów and Przysucha was suspended. Alternative transportation was arranged for passengers while emergency crews secured the area.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances and cause of the collision.(ILKHA)
