Mass protests erupt across Israel against Netanyahu’s plan to occupy Gaza

Tens of thousands of Israelis took to the streets in Tel Aviv and other cities on Saturday night, vehemently opposing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s alarming decision to seize control of the entire Gaza Strip.
The demonstrations, described as the largest in Israel in recent months, reflect growing public outrage over the government’s aggressive policies toward Palestine, which protesters warn will escalate violence and jeopardize the lives of hostages held in Gaza.
On Thursday, Netanyahu declared Israel’s intent to expand its military operation and establish full control over the Gaza Strip, a move widely criticized as a dangerous escalation of the ongoing occupation. The announcement sparked immediate backlash, with families of hostages leading the charge, warning that the plan could doom their loved ones and further destabilize the region. Calls for a general strike have gained traction as citizens demand a ceasefire and a hostage deal to prioritize humanitarian solutions over military aggression.
The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned Israel’s plans on Saturday, stating that the expansion of military operations in Palestinian territory would have “negative consequences for the entire region” and exacerbate the already dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The international community has increasingly voiced concern over Israel’s actions, which many argue violate Palestinian rights and international law.
In Tel Aviv alone, at least 10,000 protesters gathered, with demonstrations spreading to dozens of cities across Israel. The outcry reflects a growing movement within the country to reject Netanyahu’s hardline policies and advocate for peace, justice, and an end to the occupation of Palestinian territories. Protesters chanted slogans calling for an immediate ceasefire and negotiations to secure the safe release of hostages, emphasizing that military escalation will only deepen the suffering of both Palestinians and Israelis.
As the voices of dissent grow louder, the protests signal a critical moment for Israel to reconsider its approach and prioritize diplomacy over domination in Gaza. (ILKHA)
