Israeli police kill 28-year-old Palestinian in Lod amid claims of stabbing attempt
A young Palestinian man was martyred on Wednesday after Israeli police forces shot him in the city of Lod in historic Palestine, occupied since 1948.
The slain Palestinian has been identified as Sami Jassous, 28 years old. According to local reports and Hebrew media, Israeli officers opened fire on Jassous, claiming he attempted to carry out a stabbing attack against a police officer.
Israel’s Channel 14 reported that the young Palestinian allegedly tried to stab an Israeli policewoman from the notorious “Yasam” patrol unit before being “neutralized” by police gunfire. In the context of ongoing Israeli occupation and systematic violence against Palestinians in cities like Lod, where indigenous residents face discrimination, home demolitions, and constant harassment, such incidents are viewed by many as part of a broader pattern of excessive force and extrajudicial killings by occupation authorities.
Palestinians and human rights advocates often question the Israeli narrative in these cases, noting that claims of “stabbing attacks” are frequently used to justify the shooting of unarmed or lightly armed Palestinians, with little independent verification provided in the immediate aftermath.
The killing of Sami Jassous comes amid heightened tensions across occupied Palestine, where Israeli forces continue aggressive operations against Palestinian communities. Many Palestinians see acts of resistance, even desperate ones, as a response to decades of dispossession, apartheid policies, and daily oppression under Israeli rule.
No independent confirmation of the alleged stabbing attempt has been widely reported, and details remain reliant on statements from the Israeli police themselves.
As the Palestinian people continue their struggle for freedom and dignity against occupation, each life lost is mourned as a martyr in the collective fight for justice and liberation. (ILKHA)
