Iran, Saudi Arabia and China meet in Tehran to advance Beijing agreement
A high-level trilateral meeting between Iran, Saudi Arabia, and China was held in Tehran on Tuesday, marking the third joint committee session aimed at following up on the implementation of the Beijing Agreement that restored diplomatic ties between Tehran and Riyadh.
The talks, hosted by the Iranian capital, brought together senior officials at deputy foreign minister level. The session was chaired by Majid Takht-Ravanchi, with participation from Waleed Al-Khareiji and Miao Deyu.
The meeting took place amid heightened Western pressure on Iran, including economic sanctions, as Tehran continues to seek stronger diplomatic and strategic engagement with regional and global partners outside traditional Western-led frameworks. The trilateral format was described by participants as a sign of growing regional preference for structured dialogue and diversified international partnerships.
In a subsequent session, Abbas Araghchi stressed Iran’s commitment to strengthening relations with neighboring countries, particularly Saudi Arabia, while praising China’s constructive role in promoting regional stability, multilateralism and respect for international law.
China reaffirmed its readiness to support Iran and Saudi Arabia in expanding cooperation in political, economic, cultural and security fields. Saudi and Chinese delegations expressed appreciation for Iran’s hospitality and confirmed their willingness to deepen bilateral and trilateral relations.
Discussions focused on implementing the Beijing Agreement, enhancing political coordination, strengthening consular and cultural exchanges, and reinforcing commitments to national sovereignty, security and regional stability. The participants underlined the importance of peaceful conflict resolution and multilateral engagement across West Asia.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the three countries issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to the Beijing Agreement. The statement emphasized respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity in line with the UN Charter and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Charter, and acknowledged China’s ongoing facilitation role.
The statement also highlighted practical progress, including improved consular coordination that enabled safe travel for more than 85,000 Iranian Hajj pilgrims and over 210,000 Umrah pilgrims in 2025, as well as expanding exchanges between academic, media and cultural institutions.
The parties expressed support for political solutions in Yemen under United Nations auspices and called for an immediate halt to Israeli military operations in Palestine, Lebanon and Syria, while condemning violations of Iranian sovereignty.
Officials said the Tehran meeting demonstrated that the trilateral process is aimed at delivering practical outcomes, including economic cooperation in trade, infrastructure, energy and logistics, with China’s technical expertise seen as a key driver of future joint projects.
The talks were described as a significant step toward strengthening regional diplomacy and promoting long-term stability through dialogue, cooperation and diversified international engagement. (ILKHA)
