Hamas, Egypt and Qatar to hold high-stakes Gaza ceasefire talks in Türkiye
A high-level delegation of the Hamas leadership is set to arrive in Türkiye for emergency talks with Egyptian and Qatari mediators, as the Gaza ceasefire teeters on the brink of collapse due to relentless violations by the Israeli occupation regime.
According to Egyptian diplomatic sources cited by regional media, the talks will focus on reviving stalled negotiations over the second phase of the ceasefire deal and exploring new frameworks to move the process forward.
The sources said the negotiations have entered a highly sensitive and difficult stage, accusing the Israeli side of rejecting mediation proposals and obstructing progress toward a lasting settlement in the Gaza Strip.
The second phase of the ceasefire agreement, reportedly signed in Sharm el-Sheikh on October 10, 2025, includes provisions for the withdrawal of occupation forces from Gaza, long-term security arrangements, and a full end to the war. However, continued attacks and repeated violations have left the process effectively stalled.
Egyptian officials said Cairo had recently proposed measures including the entry of at least 600 humanitarian aid trucks per day into Gaza and a complete halt to military operations. According to the sources, these proposals were rejected by the Israeli side.
The Hamas leadership council is expected to take part in the discussions in full, including senior figures such as Khalil al-Hayya, Khaled Meshaal, Zaher Jabarin, Mohammed Darwish, and Nizar Awadallah.
Sources close to Hamas said the Türkiye-based meetings will center on three main proposals aimed at rebuilding trust between the parties: the withdrawal of Israeli forces from areas along the so-called “yellow line,” expanding humanitarian access to Gaza, and ending targeted assassinations and ongoing military strikes.
Hamas-aligned sources also accused Israel of attempting to derail negotiations, referring to what they described as an assassination attempt targeting Azzam al-Hayya, the son of Khalil al-Hayya.
Regional observers have suggested that recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding possible diplomatic progress with Iran could indirectly influence the Gaza negotiations.
Egyptian sources indicated that any potential understanding between Washington and Tehran might increase U.S. pressure on Israel to adhere to the ceasefire framework and re-engage more seriously with Gaza-related diplomacy.
Amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and continued Israeli strikes, Palestinian negotiators are expected to push for stronger guarantees to prevent further violations and ensure the implementation of previously agreed terms. (ILKHA)
