The death toll in Gaza has continued to rise as Palestinian health authorities report further Israeli attacks across the Strip despite the ceasefire that took effect on October 11, 2025.

Gaza’s Health Ministry said Saturday that hospitals had received seven bodies over the previous 48 hours, including six Palestinians newly killed in Israeli attacks and another who died from earlier wounds. A further 38 people were reported injured.

The ministry also said the records of 81 previously uncounted victims had been completed and formally verified, resulting in their addition to the cumulative death toll.

According to the latest figures cited by the ministry, at least 74,016 Palestinians have been killed and 175,068 wounded since the beginning of Israel’s military offensive on Gaza. The ministry stressed that the figures remain incomplete and subject to revision.

Palestinian health authorities said Israeli attacks have continued in several parts of the Gaza Strip despite the ceasefire.

The ministry said 1,415 Palestinians had been killed and 4,953 wounded since the ceasefire came into effect, while the remains of 834 people had been recovered during the same period.

The reported violations have included airstrikes, artillery fire and gunfire in different areas of the densely populated coastal enclave.

A Palestinian medical source said Qusay Maammar Helles died from critical injuries sustained in an earlier Israeli bombardment of Gaza City.

In southern Gaza, several Palestinians, including a child, were reportedly wounded when an Israeli drone struck an area near the Regional Intersection in Mawasi Khan Younis.

Israeli artillery also reportedly shelled eastern parts of Khan Younis, while Israeli military vehicles opened fire around Hamad City, north of the city.

Palestinian sources also reported Israeli gunfire directed toward areas housing displaced people in Mawasi Rafah and southern Mawasi Khan Younis.

Thousands of Palestinians remain displaced across Gaza, many living in makeshift tents and temporary shelters after repeated Israeli military operations destroyed or damaged homes and civilian infrastructure.

In northern Gaza, Israeli military vehicles reportedly opened heavy fire toward the al-Salatine and al-Atatra areas west of Beit Lahia.

The latest reports have added to concerns over the durability of the ceasefire and the protection of civilians living in areas designated for displaced people.

The continued casualties are being reported as Gaza's already weakened health system struggles to meet the needs of the population.

The World Health Organization has described Gaza as continuing to face a major humanitarian and public-health emergency, with the health system under extreme strain and medical and humanitarian needs remaining substantial. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has called for rapid, sustained and unhindered humanitarian access, including the delivery of medicines and medical equipment and the rehabilitation of health facilities.

Palestinian medical officials have also warned of shortages of medicines, fuel and medical supplies. Recent reports from Gaza said dozens of types of medicines were completely depleted and that hospitals faced significant shortages of medical supplies and laboratory materials.

The continuing violence has prompted renewed calls for all parties to respect the ceasefire and protect Palestinian civilians.

Foreign ministers from eight Arab and Muslim-majority countries — Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia — said in a joint statement this week that the ceasefire must be preserved and called for an end to violations. They also urged the immediate and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance and early-recovery supplies to Gaza.

Meanwhile, Palestinian officials have stressed that humanitarian relief alone will not be sufficient to address the devastation in Gaza, calling for the restoration of essential services, reconstruction and a broader political process addressing Palestinian rights and statehood.

With further casualties being reported despite the ceasefire, the situation in Gaza remains fragile, while Palestinian civilians continue to face displacement, shortages and the consequences of extensive destruction across the Strip. (ILKHA)
