Afghan FM Muttaqi meets UNAMA Chief Roza Otunbayeva in Kabul

Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi met on Thursday with Roza Otunbayeva, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
During the high-level meeting in Kabul, Minister Muttaqi expressed appreciation for the United Nations’ continued support for the Afghan people through its mission in the country. He emphasized the Afghan government’s desire for enhanced cooperation with UNAMA and highlighted key priorities, such as facilitating the reintegration of returning refugees and providing vital consular services for Afghans residing in European countries.
“The Afghan government is committed to addressing the concerns of its citizens abroad, especially in Europe, where many face legal challenges. We aim to ensure their rights are safeguarded through accessible consular support,” said Muttaqi.
He also reiterated the importance of stimulating private sector growth and attracting foreign investment to support long-term development and stability in the country.
UNAMA head Roza Otunbayeva reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting the Afghan people, particularly in easing the reintegration process for returnees and expanding opportunities in development alongside ongoing humanitarian efforts.
“UNAMA remains dedicated to enhancing conditions for returnees and encouraging international investment that benefits the Afghan people,” Otunbayeva stated. She added that the mission would continue working to convey the Afghan government’s position and developments at upcoming United Nations platforms.
Both sides agreed to maintain close collaboration and communication to address mutual concerns and build constructive engagement between Afghanistan and the international community. (ILKHA)
