Türkiye ready to support Gaza peace mechanisms and reconstruction efforts
The National Security Council (MGK) convened on Wednesday under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, addressing Türkiye’s security priorities and key regional developments.
The meeting focused on counterterrorism operations, the Gaza ceasefire, the situations in Syria, Sudan, Ukraine, and the South Caucasus.
According to the statement released after the session, the Council received a comprehensive briefing on Türkiye’s ongoing operations against terrorist organizations posing threats to national unity and survival — including PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETÖ, and DAESH. The MGK emphasized that these efforts continue “with determination, resolve, and success” both domestically and abroad, particularly in the context of evolving international dynamics.
‘Terror-Free Türkiye’ Vision Reaffirmed
The Council reiterated its commitment to the goal of a “Terror-Free Türkiye,” reviewing the extensive and multifaceted strategy aimed at bringing terrorism to a full and permanent end. It underlined that neither Türkiye nor the wider region has room for any form of terrorism or violence in its future.
Support for Syria’s Stability
The MGK expressed satisfaction with the recent positive progress observed in Türkiye’s southern neighbor Syria. The Council welcomed developments enabling Syria to overcome its challenges, regain its rightful place internationally, and contribute to regional stability. Türkiye reaffirmed its readiness to support the peace, prosperity, and security of all segments of the “brotherly Syrian people.”
Gaza Ceasefire and Israeli Violations Addressed
A central focus of the MGK meeting was the ceasefire in Gaza, described as “vital for stopping the genocide in the region.” The Council stressed that Türkiye, as one of the architects of the ceasefire agreement, views recent Israeli violations with deep concern and called on the Israeli administration to immediately halt its attacks and comply with its commitments.
The statement added that Türkiye is prepared to assume responsibility in any mechanisms formed to guarantee lasting peace and stability in Gaza and stands ready to contribute to reconstruction efforts in the war-torn enclave.
Call for Cooperation on Sudan
With Sudan’s internal conflict worsening, the MGK assessed recent developments and reiterated Türkiye’s support for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Council urged all international actors — especially regional states — to cooperate in taking urgent steps to end the massacres targeting civilians and to stop the ongoing clashes.
Russia–Ukraine War: Diplomatic Path Urged
The meeting also reviewed the latest situation in the Russia–Ukraine conflict amid renewed signs of escalation. Underscoring the importance of diplomatic channels, the Council stated that Türkiye will continue working with its international partners to help secure a “lasting and just peace.”
South Caucasus Peace Process Welcomed
Finally, the MGK welcomed recent positive momentum in peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia. It discussed new opportunities for bilateral and regional cooperation arising from this progress and reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to promoting stability, peace, and development across the South Caucasus.
