Turkish FM to pay first bilateral visit to Germany as Ankara-Berlin dialogue gains momentum
Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will travel to Germany on Friday for his first official bilateral visit to Berlin, following an invitation from German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, as diplomatic engagement between Ankara and Berlin continues to gain momentum.
According to a statement by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, the trip marks Fidan’s first bilateral visit to Germany since assuming office, underscoring the importance both countries place on strengthening dialogue at a high level.
During his program in Berlin, Minister Fidan is set to hold high-level talks addressing key areas of Türkiye–Germany relations, including regional developments, political cooperation, and economic ties.
Discussions will also focus on issues relevant to the large Turkish community in Germany, one of the most significant diaspora groups in Europe.
Both sides are expected to highlight the positive momentum achieved in recent months, stressing the value of sustained consultation mechanisms and regular diplomatic contacts to advance bilateral cooperation.
In addition to official talks, Fidan will meet with Turkish business leaders and civil society representatives based in Germany. These meetings will explore opportunities to further strengthen economic cooperation and reflect on the continued growth in trade and investment between the two countries.
Energy and transportation—two fields where Türkiye and Germany already engage through numerous joint platforms—will also feature prominently in discussions. Turkish officials say both sides are expected to assess existing mechanisms from a strategic perspective and examine new areas for deeper collaboration.
The visit comes at a time when Türkiye and Germany are expanding engagement across political, economic, and societal spheres. Both governments have expressed a shared commitment to advancing relations on the basis of mutual interests and reinforcing the longstanding partnership between the two countries. (ILKHA)
