Türkiye, Indonesia celebrate 75 years of diplomatic ties with strengthened bilateral cooperation

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto held a joint press conference at the Presidential Complex in Ankara on Thursday, marking a new chapter in Türkiye–Indonesia relations as the two countries celebrate the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.
Erdoğan recalled his recent visit to Indonesia in February during the inaugural meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, expressing gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by the Indonesian leadership. “These mutual engagements demonstrate the unique level the brotherly and friendly ties between our countries have reached,” he said.
Historic Address and Deepening of Strategic Cooperation
The Turkish leader hailed President Prabowo’s address to the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye as a symbolic moment underscoring the “ancient brotherhood” between the two nations. “Our historical ties date back over 400 years,” Erdoğan emphasized.
To mark the milestone anniversary, the two sides signed a series of bilateral agreements in areas including culture, disaster and emergency management, and communication. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expanding trade volume to a balanced target of $10 billion.
Enhanced Cooperation in Key Sectors
Erdoğan announced plans to further deepen cooperation in the fields of defense industry, construction, healthcare, energy, and food production. He also noted discussions on joint production initiatives in defense, reflecting a growing strategic alignment.
Tourism was another area of mutual success, with Erdoğan highlighting that over 200,000 Indonesian tourists visited Türkiye in the past year, while 50,000 Turks traveled to Indonesia. He expressed optimism that these numbers will continue to grow with increased flight connections.
Youth Exchange and Cultural Engagement
The Turkish President also praised the increasing interest of Indonesian youth in Türkiye Scholarships, stating that the nearly 5,000 Indonesian students currently studying in Türkiye are seen as “cultural ambassadors” fostering stronger people-to-people ties.
United Front on International Issues
President Erdoğan affirmed that Türkiye and Indonesia remain in close cooperation on global platforms including the United Nations, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), G20, D-8, and MIKTA. He especially commended Indonesia’s principled stance on the Palestinian issue, vowing to work jointly for the reconstruction of Gaza and continued support for the Palestinian cause.
“Our cooperation spans continents, sectors, and generations,” Erdoğan concluded, underscoring that the bond between Türkiye and Indonesia is rooted in a shared vision of peace, development, and global justice. (ILKHA)
