Turkish Presidency refutes four disinformation claims ahead of NATO Summit
Türkiye's Directorate of Communications has dismissed four widely circulated claims related to the NATO Summit and defense company ASELSAN, describing them as false and urging the public to rely on official information.
The Directorate of Communications' Center for Countering Disinformation (DMM) published its 210th Disinformation Bulletin, rejecting four claims that it said were intended to mislead the public.
Terror attack claim dismissed
The DMM described social media posts claiming that a terrorist attack would occur in Ankara during the NATO Summit as disinformation and a psychological warfare attempt aimed at creating fear and panic.
The center said all necessary security measures had been implemented by the relevant authorities and added that legal proceedings had been launched against those responsible for spreading such content.
ASELSAN sale rumors denied
The bulletin also rejected claims that ASELSAN would be sold to a U.S.-based company.
The DMM stressed that there are no plans to sell or transfer ownership of one of Türkiye's leading defense companies.
Fake application portal warning
The center also denied reports claiming that a "NATO Summit Security Coordination Center" had established an application portal for employees of priority public institutions.
It warned that the documents and application pages circulating online were fake and had been created to obtain personal information by misusing the names and logos of public institutions.
The DMM added that legal action had been initiated against those responsible for preparing and distributing the fraudulent content.
GBT claim rejected
The bulletin further dismissed claims that all passengers traveling to Ankara by air, rail, or bus were being subjected to General Information Gathering (GBT) background checks because of the NATO Summit.
The center said that although additional security measures had been implemented, there was no blanket policy requiring systematic GBT checks for all travelers without a specific security reason or suspicion.
The DMM urged the public to rely only on information released by official institutions and to disregard misleading or manipulative content circulating online. (ILKHA)
