Magnitude 4.8 earthquake strikes Aegean Sea
A magnitude 4.8 earthquake was recorded in the Aegean Sea early this morning, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced.
According to AFAD’s preliminary data, the quake occurred at a depth of 7 kilometres, with its epicentre located off the coast of Türkiye near the northwestern province of Çanakkale.
The tremor was felt in some coastal areas, though no damage or casualties have been reported. Local authorities and AFAD teams confirmed that initial assessments show no impact on settlements or infrastructure.
Monitoring efforts in the region are continuing, and officials stated that there is no current risk to residents.
Türkiye sits on several active fault lines and experiences frequent seismic activity. Authorities reiterated the importance of following safety guidelines and remaining attentive to official updates in the event of aftershocks. (ILKHA)
