HÜDA PAR: Kemalist policies continue to restrict freedoms across Türkiye
HÜDA PAR Mersin Member of Parliament Faruk Dinç held a press conference at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), where he delivered sharp criticism of the ongoing “Kemalist impositions” in public life.
Dinç argued that these ideological pressures continue to restrict freedom of thought and expression across various sectors.
Dinç also commented on the Mass Housing Administration’s (TOKİ) “First Home, Land” project, noting that despite three years passing since the initiative was introduced, land allocations in many provinces remain incomplete.
“Citizens who are reportedly entitled to plots under this project have not been able to apply for the new 500,000 housing project either,” Dinç stated. “With no concrete progress made for years, the land initiative itself has become an obstacle preventing citizens from accessing other housing opportunities.”
Highlighting rising housing and rental prices, he called on authorities to act urgently. “The public expects transparency—clear information and a timetable must be announced. This process must be finalized as soon as possible,” he said.
Addressing family and social policies, Dinç emphasized the importance of recognizing the labor of women who choose to raise children at home.
“If population growth is a national objective, the efforts of women who choose to remain at home to raise their children must never be ignored,” he said. Dinç called for economic support mechanisms and formal recognition of domestic labor, stating that household care and child-rearing are “round-the-clock commitments” that deserve public policy backing.
Dinç also touched on what he described as the persistent influence of Kemalist ideology in state institutions and society.
“For many years, Kemalist impositions have continued to shape nearly every area of social and political life in Türkiye,” he said. “From education to media, from political parties to the Directorate of Religious Affairs, the influence of the official ideology persists, leading to injustices and legal violations in both public and private sectors.”
Dinç asserted that Kemalism has been increasingly embraced by political actors, including conservatives, not reluctantly as in the past but now voluntarily.
“Daily rituals and ceremonies contribute to sanctifying certain individuals and Kemalism as the official ideology,” he claimed. “Meanwhile, those with differing views face detentions and investigations.”
He concluded by calling for a return to social values and respect for all beliefs and opinions. “The freedom of thought and belief of every citizen must be protected, and unjust practices stemming from forced ideological impositions must come to an end,” Dinç said. (ILKHA)
