Heavy rain triggers flash flooding across Ankara

Heavy rainfall in Ankara has caused severe flooding, disrupting daily life in several districts of the Turkish capital.
The downpour, which began on Saturday evening, inundated streets and roads in areas including Sincan, Beypazarı and Polatlı. Homes, businesses and warehouses—particularly those on ground and basement levels—were flooded, while sewage systems in some neighbourhoods overflowed.
In Beypazarı’s Kurtuluş neighbourhood, floodwaters entered residential areas, forcing some residents to evacuate. Motorists on the Eskişehir-Polatlı road faced significant difficulties, while water accumulation on the Sincan-Ayaş road caused transportation delays.
The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality dispatched emergency crews, but officials acknowledged that the scale of the flooding hampered evacuation and response efforts.
Local authorities have urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain cautious as weather warnings remain in effect for the region. (ILKHA)
