22 migrants rescued after boat malfunctions off Marmaris

Twenty-two irregular migrants, including two children, have been rescued by Turkish Coast Guard teams after their inflatable boat malfunctioned off the coast of Marmaris, in the Muğla province.
According to a statement from the Coast Guard Command, the migrants were travelling in a fibre-hulled inflatable boat when it experienced mechanical failure in the Aegean Sea. A rescue operation was launched after authorities were alerted to the incident.
All 22 migrants were safely brought ashore. Among those rescued were two children. Two individuals suspected of involvement in migrant smuggling were detained during the operation.
The rescued migrants were transferred to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management for processing.
Türkiye remains a key transit point for irregular migrants seeking to cross into Europe, with the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts frequently used as departure routes despite dangerous sea conditions and increased patrols. (ILKHA)
