Erdoğan: Türkiye and Japan must confront Gaza’s humanitarian tragedy

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has penned a major article in Nikkei Shimbun, one of Japan’s leading newspapers, urging Asia’s “two ends” — Türkiye and Japan — to act as a collective conscience for the world.
In his article, President Erdoğan underscored the deep historical and emotional bonds between Türkiye and Japan.
“The bridge of hearts that connects Türkiye and Japan is stronger than official documents, for it is nourished by history, human conscience, and memories flowing through time,” Erdoğan wrote.
He cited several landmark infrastructure projects that symbolize the cooperation between the two nations, including the Marmaray, the Osmangazi Bridge, the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, and the Golden Horn Bridge, noting that these achievements represent not only engineering excellence but also wisdom, alliance, and heartfelt partnership.
President Erdoğan highlighted the potential of Türkiye and Japan to jointly address global issues through humanitarian diplomacy and collaboration. He cited initiatives by TİKA (Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency) and JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) as examples of the countries’ shared commitment to humanitarian projects.
“Türkiye and Japan can pave the way for constructive solutions to global challenges through their joint efforts,” Erdoğan emphasized.
The President also addressed the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, describing Israel’s actions as genocide and occupation.
“Children are starving to death, hospitals are rendered inoperable, cities are destroyed, and millions are deprived of their most basic needs. This tragedy is an issue for all humanity. As Türkiye, we have not been silent, and we will not be silent,” Erdoğan stated.
He called for ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian access, and the protection of civilians, stressing the importance of combining Japan’s commitment to peace and international law with Türkiye’s regional influence and aid capacity.
“When combined, this partnership would be a dignified and robust force for humanity,” Erdoğan concluded.
The article underscores Türkiye’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian diplomacy, regional stability, and global collaboration, while positioning Türkiye and Japan as partners capable of fostering peace and justice in turbulent times. (ILKHA)
