At least one killed after coal mine collapsed in northern Türkiye

A coal mine collapse in Türkiye’s Zonguldak province has left one worker dead and another trapped beneath rubble, according to local media reports.
The incident occurred earlier today in one of the mining facilities in the province, which has long been a center of Türkiye’s coal production. Preliminary information indicates that two miners were caught under the debris when part of the mine structure gave way.
Search and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the site and are currently working to reach the trapped miner. Efforts are ongoing as authorities coordinate emergency response operations in the area.
Zonguldak has witnessed several mining accidents in past years, with safety concerns frequently raised by unions and local communities. Today’s incident once again highlights the dangers faced by miners in the region.
Officials have yet to release further details about the cause of the collapse or the condition of the trapped worker. (ILKHA)
