Türkiye’s disinflation process broadens despite rising energy cost, Şimşek says
Türkiye’s annual consumer inflation fell by 3.1 percentage points to 29.8 percent, with the disinflation process spreading across most major categories, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek said.
In a post on social media, Şimşek said annual inflation declined by 7.1 percentage points in food, 2.5 points in goods excluding energy and food, and 7.9 points in services.
However, energy inflation rose by 16.7 percentage points due to higher prices driven by the war, limiting the overall pace of disinflation, he added.
Şimşek said a balanced course of economic activity, an expected decline in energy and commodity prices, improving inflation expectations and easing services inflation inertia would support further price moderation in the coming period.
The government would also accelerate supply-side measures in food, housing and energy, he said, adding that administered and regulated prices would be brought into closer alignment with inflation targets, within budgetary limits. (ILKHA)
