Venezuela strengthens strategic ties with Russia amid rising U.S. hostility
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced that his government is deepening military and political cooperation with Russia, warning against what he described as the increasingly hostile policies of the United States toward Caracas.
According to a report by Rossiya El-Youm, President Maduro stated in a televised interview that Venezuela maintains daily contact with the Russian government on a wide range of issues.
“We are in daily contact with the Russian government on all matters,” Maduro said. “Our relationship with Russia covers all major sectors — from industry and technology to the economy and military affairs. This cooperation is founded on respect and mutual benefit.”
The Venezuelan leader underscored that Moscow remains a key strategic ally and praised Russia’s role as a “great world power” capable of building relations based on mutual respect and solidarity, even in the face of Western pressure.
“Russia is a great global power and, at the same time, knows how to build respectful relations with other nations, including Venezuela,” he added.
Maduro also welcomed a recent statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, which affirmed Moscow’s readiness to respond to any requests from Caracas amid current geopolitical tensions.
“That is true,” Maduro confirmed. “This is how it should be — peace, trust, and brotherhood.”
The remarks come as relations between Venezuela and the United States continue to deteriorate, with Washington imposing new sanctions and reportedly considering military options in the Caribbean. Caracas, in turn, has turned toward Russia, China, and Iran as part of a broader strategy to counterbalance U.S. influence in the region. (ILKHA)
