UN sounds alarm on Gaza’s collapsing health system amid relentless bombardment

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has issued an urgent warning of a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, driven by relentless Israeli airstrikes and a critical fuel shortage.
The agency’s latest update, released late Tuesday, describes a dire situation where civilian infrastructure—tents, schools, homes, and medical facilities—is being decimated, with dozens of Palestinians killed or injured daily.
Hospitals in Gaza are on the brink of collapse, with dwindling medical supplies and inoperable ambulances due to damage or lack of fuel. The enclave’s water network faces imminent failure, exacerbating risks to public health and sanitation. OCHA reported that Gaza’s remaining fuel reserves are critically low, prioritized for life-saving operations like intensive care units and water pumps, but these are nearly depleted due to an ongoing Israeli blockade preventing new deliveries.
On Tuesday night, Israeli forces issued a new displacement order targeting areas around Khan Yunis, forcing Palestinians in tents to flee to already overcrowded and unsafe zones. OCHA noted that Gaza’s so-called “safe zones” now cover just 15% of the territory, with these areas fragmented, unstable, and frequently attacked. “There is nowhere left to go that can be considered truly safe,” the agency stated.
The UN has called on Israeli authorities to allow immediate and unrestricted humanitarian aid, particularly fuel and medical supplies, warning that without urgent international action, Gaza faces a dramatic surge in fatalities in the coming days. (ILKHA)
