UN Security Council to hold open session on Palestine amid rising tensions in Middle East

The United Nations Security Council is set to convene an open session on Monday to address the escalating situation in the Middle East, with a particular emphasis on the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the implementation of UN Resolution 2334.
Mohamed Khaled Khiari, UN Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific, will brief Council members on the latest quarterly report by the UN Secretary-General. The report assesses the status of compliance with Resolution 2334, which was adopted on December 23, 2016.
The resolution demands that Israel halt all settlement activity in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and reaffirms the illegality of Israeli settlements under international law.
The open session is expected to draw strong international attention amid continued violence in the region and widespread concerns about the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the West Bank.
Following the public briefing, the Security Council will reconvene for a closed consultation session to engage in more in-depth deliberations on the issue and consider possible responses or recommendations.
This latest meeting reflects ongoing international concern over the deteriorating situation on the ground and the broader implications for regional peace and security. (ILKHA)
