Türkiye reaffirms readiness to mediate Ukraine-Russia peace talks

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha on the sidelines of the Informal Meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs convened in Antalya.
The high-level talks centered on ongoing efforts to bring about a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia and lay the groundwork for a lasting peace in the region.
During the meeting, Minister Fidan reiterated Türkiye’s readiness to support diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war, offering mediation services and even hosting future rounds of negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow. Ankara, which has previously played a pivotal role in facilitating dialogue between the two sides, continues to present itself as a neutral actor advocating for peace and stability.
Minister Fidan emphasized that Türkiye stands prepared to provide all forms of support to end the bloodshed and promote reconciliation. “Our priority is the restoration of peace through dialogue and diplomacy,” he stated.
The two foreign ministers also discussed preparations for an upcoming official visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Türkiye. The visit is expected to further deepen Turkish-Ukrainian bilateral ties and advance cooperation in various fields, including regional security and post-war reconstruction.
Türkiye has consistently maintained dialogue with both Ukraine and Russia since the outbreak of the war in 2022, facilitating key agreements such as the Black Sea Grain Initiative and humanitarian corridors. Ankara’s continued engagement is seen as part of its broader strategy to promote regional peace and safeguard its strategic interests. (ILKHA)
