Russia launches massive overnight attack across Ukraine

At least one person was killed and over 40 others injured as Russian forces launched a massive wave of attacks across multiple Ukrainian regions overnight, local and national authorities reported on Monday.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the assault included a staggering 450 aerial threats, among them 426 Shahed-type drones and various types of advanced missiles, such as Kinzhals, Kalibrs, and Kh-101 cruise missiles. Ukrainian air defense systems intercepted or disrupted 224 targets, including 200 drones. Additionally, 203 drone decoys failed to reach their intended destinations.
The capital, Kyiv, bore the brunt of the overnight attack. A civilian was killed, and seven others, including a child, were injured. Six districts were struck, causing damage to residential buildings and urban infrastructure. Kyiv City Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko confirmed the severity of the assault, calling it one of the most widespread attacks in recent weeks.
In Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, fires broke out in homes and garages following missile impacts. Four people, including a child, were injured in the Ivano-Frankivsk and Kolomyia districts, according to the State Emergency Service.
Dnipropetrovsk Oblast was also heavily affected. Two people were injured in attacks targeting Nikopol, Pokrovska, and Marhanetska communities. Fires destroyed homes, vehicles, and grain fields. In Synelnykove district, infrastructure and farmland were damaged. A missile strike in Pavlohrad district caused a fire, which has since been extinguished.
In Kharkiv Oblast, seven civilians were injured as Russian forces deployed drones, missiles, and glide bombs across Kharkiv city and ten surrounding locations. Damage was reported to residential buildings, tram lines, energy facilities, and government offices.
In Donetsk Oblast, ten people were wounded amid shelling of 22 settlements, including Pokrovsk, Kramatorsk, and Bakhmut districts. The regional governor, Vadym Filashkin, confirmed damage to dozens of homes, vehicles, and electrical lines. Over 300 residents, including a child, were evacuated.
In Kherson Oblast, more than 40 towns and villages came under fire. Two civilians were injured, and infrastructure, including homes, a water tower, a cell tower, and vehicles, was destroyed or damaged, according to Governor Oleksandr Prokudin.
Sumy Oblast reported four injuries, including a child, after 90 separate attacks hit 38 settlements. Authorities say air-dropped explosives and guided bombs were used to target homes, cars, and civilian infrastructure.
In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, three people were injured in the Vasylivka district, and a fourth was wounded in a drone strike early Monday. Governor Ivan Fedorov stated that Russian forces launched 579 strikes, including air raids and drone attacks, hitting 12 communities. Residential areas, vehicles, and public infrastructure sustained serious damage.
The overnight assault underscores Russia’s continued use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and long-range precision missiles to target civilian infrastructure across Ukraine. The Ukrainian military and civil defense services remain on high alert as recovery efforts begin in the affected areas.
As international condemnation of Russia’s tactics continues to grow, humanitarian organizations are warning of rising civilian casualties and worsening damage to critical infrastructure that millions depend on for electricity, water, and transportation. (ILKHA)
