Putin to visit India on December 4–5 for strategic talks with Modi
Russian President Vladimir Putin will undertake an official visit to India on December 4–5, 2025, at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kremlin and India’s Foreign Ministry announced on Friday.
The visit is considered highly significant, offering an opportunity to comprehensively address the broad agenda of Russia-India relations, described as a particularly privileged strategic partnership. Key areas include political, trade, economic, scientific, technological, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation.
During the state visit, President Putin will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi, as well as a separate meeting with Indian President Droupadi Murmu. According to the Kremlin, a number of intergovernmental and commercial documents are expected to be signed, further cementing cooperation between the two nations.
“This visit is of great importance, providing a platform to evaluate current international and regional issues alongside the wide-ranging bilateral agenda,” the Kremlin said in a statement. The talks are also expected to cover energy, defense, and regional security matters, reflecting the depth of the strategic partnership.
Putin’s visit follows his previous trip to India in December 2021, months before Russia’s military operations in Ukraine, highlighting the longstanding diplomatic engagement between Moscow and New Delhi. Analysts note that India has remained a major purchaser of Russian oil, although recent reports suggest that December imports are set to decline due to Western sanctions and alternative supply arrangements.
The Russian and Indian governments stressed that the visit reflects a commitment to maintaining strong, multi-dimensional ties and enhancing cooperation across all strategic sectors. (ILKHA)
