Petro: Global instability began with Israel’s bombing of Palestinian children

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has issued a stark warning about the growing instability in the Middle East, linking the crisis directly to Israel’s military assault on Gaza and cautioning that it could lead the world to the brink of a global conflict.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), President Petro stated that “it all started with the bombing of Palestinian children and the genocide in Gaza,” placing the blame squarely on the Israeli government and its Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Colombian leader posted a video of mass pro-Palestinian protests in Berlin, where demonstrators openly condemned Netanyahu’s policies. Citing the footage as evidence of growing global unrest, Petro used the moment to call for urgent international action.
“The starting point for a solution is for Netanyahu to stop bombing Palestine, declare a ceasefire, and stop endangering all of humanity,” he said.
President Petro’s remarks reflect growing frustration in the Global South over the international community’s failure to halt the destruction in Gaza. His language marks one of the strongest condemnations yet from a Latin American leader, as he joined a chorus of voices denouncing what many have termed a genocide against the Palestinian people.
Petro has consistently aligned Colombia with human rights advocacy on the global stage and has become a prominent critic of Israeli military aggression in recent months. His latest statements add further weight to international calls for an immediate ceasefire and a reorientation of global diplomacy toward justice and peace in Palestine. (ILKHA)
