Mawlawi Abdul Kabir has been appointed as the acting head of the interim government instead of Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, by the order of the leader of the Islamic Emirate, Mawlawi Hibatullah Akhundzada.
According to Zabiullah Mujahid, the spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, PM Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund is currently receiving medical treatment in Kandahar and will be away for an extended period. In his absence, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, the political deputy PM, is overseeing the government affairs as the acting PM.
Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, aged 51, was born in Tangi village of Nahrin district in Baghlan province, although his ancestors hail from Paktika. Having held various positions within the Islamic Emirate, Kabir previously served as the political deputy PM before assuming the role of acting PM.
During the first term of the Taliban government, Kabir worked as a governor for Logar and Nangarhar provinces. He also served as the head of the political commission of the Islamic Emirate for two years starting in 2005. Additionally, he was a member of the Taliban's negotiating team involved in peace talks with the former republican government. (ILKHA)
