Massive crowds gather for second day of mourning for Khamenei in Tehran
Iran entered the second day of nationwide mourning on Sunday as hundreds of thousands of people continued to gather at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla to pay their respects to the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
The public mourning ceremonies resumed in the early hours of the morning, with a steady flow of mourners arriving from across the country. Men, women, children, religious scholars, students, military personnel, and representatives of various social and political groups joined the commemorations, reflecting the profound impact of the loss on the Iranian nation.
The Grand Mosalla, one of Tehran’s largest religious and public gathering venues, has become the focal point of national mourning since the announcement of Ayatollah Khamenei’s martyrdom. Participants carried portraits of the late Leader, Iranian flags, and banners bearing messages of loyalty to the ideals of the Islamic Revolution.
Religious recitations, Quran readings, and speeches honoring Ayatollah Khamenei's decades of leadership were held throughout the day. Mourners described him as a symbol of resistance, Islamic unity, and steadfast opposition to foreign domination, pledging to continue the path he championed.
State media reported that delegations from numerous provinces traveled overnight to attend the ceremonies, while memorial gatherings were simultaneously organized in cities and towns across Iran. Major mourning events were also held in Mashhad, Qom, Isfahan, Tabriz, Shiraz, and Ahvaz, where large crowds gathered in mosques, public squares, and religious centers.
The mourning ceremonies have also drawn the participation of foreign delegations, Islamic scholars, and representatives of resistance movements from across the region. Several visiting officials offered condolences to the Iranian people and praised Ayatollah Khamenei's role in supporting regional causes and advocating for Muslim unity.
Authorities have implemented extensive security and logistical measures to accommodate the unprecedented number of attendees. Transportation services have been expanded, while medical and emergency teams remain on standby around major gathering points.
According to organizers, the public mourning ceremonies will continue over the coming days, culminating in major national commemorations expected to attract millions more participants. Officials have described the gatherings as among the largest public mourning events in the history of the Islamic Republic.
As crowds continued to fill Tehran’s Grand Mosalla on Sunday, many mourners emphasized that the legacy of Ayatollah Khamenei would endure through the continued commitment of the Iranian people to the principles of the Islamic Revolution, resistance, independence, and support for oppressed nations around the world.
