Israeli minister sparks outrage with call to burn Sinwar’s body

Regev’s shocking remarks calling for Sinwar’s body to be burned spark outrage and highlight the rising hate rhetoric within the Israeli occupation amid the fragile Gaza ceasefire
Israeli Transport Minister Miri Regev has drawn international condemnation by suggesting that the body of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar be burned, reflecting the escalating rhetoric of vengeance and hatred within the Israeli occupation regime.
Regev made the remarks during a cabinet meeting, telling reporters that she proposed “burning Sinwar’s corpse, just as Americans did with Osama bin Laden,” despite the fact that bin Laden’s body was actually buried at sea. She added, “We cannot allow such symbols to return. I do not want to see Sinwar buried.”
The statement also addressed the second phase of the ceasefire between Hamas and the Israeli occupation, with Regev asserting that it would not proceed “until the last bodies of captives are handed over,” accusing Hamas of failing to comply with agreements.
Sinwar, the martyred leader of Hamas, was killed in October 2024 during an Israeli airstrike in Rafah, southern Khan Yunis. Since then, the occupation authorities have refused to return his body.
Arab media outlets, including Al Jazeera and Asharq Al-Awsat, reported extensively on Regev’s comments, highlighting their inflammatory nature and potential to escalate tensions in the region.
