Israeli drone strikes kill two, injure seven in southern Lebanon

Israeli drone strikes on Monday killed two people and wounded seven others in southern Lebanon, marking yet another violation of the fragile ceasefire agreement, according to a statement from the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health.
The ministry reported that an Israeli drone targeted a civilian vehicle in the town of Doueir, located in the Nabatieh district. The attack killed one person, injured seven others, and set multiple vehicles ablaze. The incident was confirmed by Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA), which noted that rescue teams and firefighters rushed to the scene to extinguish the flames and transport the wounded to nearby hospitals.
A second attack struck the border town of Aita al-Shaab, killing another person who was riding a motorcycle. The health ministry confirmed the death, identifying the strike as another deliberate act of aggression by the Israeli military within Lebanese territory.
In a third strike, an Israeli drone reportedly dropped a small bomb near a bulldozer operating in the northern neighborhood of Khiyam, in the Marjayoun district. While no casualties were reported in that incident, the attack further heightened fears of an escalating conflict along the Lebanese-Israeli border.
The National News Agency emphasized that Monday’s strikes were part of a series of Israeli air raids carried out in recent weeks across southern Lebanon, despite the ceasefire agreement that has technically remained in effect since November 2024.
Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have been steadily rising, with near-daily drone and artillery fire reported from both sides. The latest assaults come amid reports by Israel’s public broadcaster KAN suggesting that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is weighing an expansion of military operations in Lebanon. The stated goal is to counter Hezbollah’s alleged attempts to rearm and reorganize in border areas.
Local observers warn that continued Israeli violations risk shattering the fragile truce and dragging Lebanon into a broader regional confrontation. Lebanese officials have repeatedly appealed to the United Nations and international mediators to pressure Israel into halting its incursions and respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty. (ILKHA)
