Iran slams Western accusations as political cover for Israeli war crimes

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly rejected allegations made by 14 Western governments accusing the Islamic Republic of “state-sponsored threats” in Europe and North America, describing the claims as baseless, politically motivated, and aimed at deflecting attention from Israeli war crimes in Gaza.
The joint statement, issued on July 31 and signed by the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, and 10 other NATO-aligned countries, accused Iran of engaging in destabilizing activities abroad.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei dismissed the accusations as “ridiculous and unfounded,” asserting that the move is part of a coordinated effort to shift global focus away from what he described as the “genocidal crimes” committed by Israel against Palestinians in Gaza.
“This is a brazen attempt to pin the blame on others and distract public opinion from the most important topic of the day, namely the Israeli genocidal crimes in Palestine,” Baghaei said.
Baghaei criticized the countries behind the statement for what he called blatant double standards, pointing to their military and diplomatic support for Israel.
“The US, France, and the other countries that signed the anti-Iranian statement must themselves be held accountable for violations of international law in support of terrorism, as the sponsors and hosts of terrorist and violent groups,” he said, referencing the West’s sheltering of anti-Iran elements and its silence on Israeli actions.
The spokesperson also highlighted recent U.S. and Israeli military actions targeting Iranian assets, accusing Western governments of ignoring such provocations while positioning themselves as defenders of global security.
Baghaei described the allegations as “a blatant falsification and an escape forward,” framing them as part of a broader campaign of “Iranophobia” designed to justify coercive measures against the Iranian people.
Calling the move a violation of international law and the UN Charter, Baghaei urged that the signatories of the statement be held accountable for what he termed “indecent and irresponsible behavior.”
The 14 countries behind the statement include the US, UK, France, Germany, Canada, Sweden, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Albania, and the Czech Republic. (ILKHA)
