Iran executes man convicted of espionage for Israel
Iran has executed Aghil Keshavarz after the country’s Supreme Court upheld his death sentence on charges of espionage and intelligence cooperation with Israel, judicial authorities announced.
According to Iran’s judiciary, Keshavarz was convicted of spying for the Israeli occupation, maintaining intelligence ties with Israeli military intelligence and the Mossad, and conducting surveillance and filming of sensitive military and security sites inside Iran.
In a statement released by judicial officials, authorities said Keshavarz had established contact with Israeli intelligence services through cyberspace and maintained separate and sustained communications with both the Israeli military and Mossad operatives during his period of activity.
Judicial records indicate that the case went through all required legal stages, including investigation, trial, and appeal, before the Supreme Court confirmed the death sentence. Officials stressed that all legal procedures were fully completed prior to the execution.
The judiciary described the case as part of Iran’s efforts to confront what it calls foreign intelligence infiltration and hostile security operations targeting the country.
The execution comes amid an intensified Iranian campaign against suspected Israeli intelligence networks, particularly following heightened regional tensions and the 12-day war involving Iran earlier this year.
Throughout June 2025, Iranian authorities announced the arrest of dozens of individuals accused of links to Mossad. During that period, the judiciary executed several convicted spies, including three men on June 25, accused of collaborating with Israeli intelligence and facilitating sabotage operations inside Iran.
State media reported that approximately 700 suspected spies were detained during the conflict period, as security agencies moved to dismantle what they described as coordinated espionage and sabotage cells.
Iranian security forces have reported arrests across the country as part of coordinated operations, announcing on June 18 the detention of five suspected Mossad agents in Lorestan province along with multiple others in Tehran and Isfahan, where authorities said they seized explosives, drones, and launch systems allegedly linked to espionage activities. Earlier, on June 16, officials in Khuzestan province stated that 54 individuals were arrested on accusations of supporting Mossad through intelligence gathering and the dissemination of propaganda against the Iranian state, while on June 14–15 police in Alborz province detained two alleged operatives who were reportedly found in possession of explosives and drone components.
Iranian officials said the arrests were aimed at preventing acts of sabotage, targeted attacks, and psychological operations directed by foreign intelligence services.
Beyond the summer operations, Tehran announced in August 2025 the arrest of 20 additional suspected Mossad operatives, along with further executions of individuals convicted of espionage, signaling what authorities describe as a sustained and long-term security campaign extending into the autumn and winter months.
Iranian officials have repeatedly stated that they view Israeli intelligence activity as a direct threat to national sovereignty and internal security, vowing to continue pursuing what they describe as a zero-tolerance policy toward espionage and collaboration with hostile foreign powers.
The execution of Aghil Keshavarz, authorities say, reflects Iran’s determination to deter foreign intelligence operations and reinforce what it calls the security of the state and the region. (ILKHA)
