Iran: Clashes erupt in Sistan-Baluchestan, security forces targeted

At least 11 Iranian security forces were killed on Thursday in attacks targeting Revolutionary Guards headquarters in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan.
These attacks came on the heels of overnight clashes between Iranian security forces and militants from the Jaish al-Adl group. The clashes, which erupted in the towns of Chabahar and Rask, reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 15 militants.
Iranian state media quoted Deputy Interior Minister Majid Mirahmadi stating that "the terrorists failed to succeed in achieving their goal of seizing the Guards headquarters."
According to reports, the attacks by Jaish al-Adl are linked to demands for greater rights and improved living conditions for the Baluchi ethnic minority in Iran. The group has claimed responsibility for similar attacks on Iranian security forces in Sistan-Baluchestan in recent years.
Sistan-Baluchestan, bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan, has a long history of unrest. Frequent clashes erupt between Iranian security forces and various armed groups, including militants, drug traffickers, and well-armed criminals. The province also serves as a key transit route for narcotics trafficked from Afghanistan westward.
This recent incident follows a similar attack by Jaish al-Adl in December 2023, where they targeted a police station in Rask, killing 11 security personnel and injuring several others. (ILKHA)
