Hamas reaches framework agreement with U.S. envoy for Gaza ceasefire

The Hamas Movement announced on Wednesday evening that it has reached a preliminary framework agreement with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff aimed at establishing a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, Hamas said the proposed agreement includes several key components: a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid, and the creation of a professional committee to oversee the administration of the territory following the deal’s implementation.
As part of the framework, Hamas has agreed to release ten Israeli captives along with the remains of several individuals, in exchange for the release of an agreed number of Palestinian prisoners. The exchange and ceasefire terms are expected to be monitored and guaranteed by international mediators.
The movement emphasized that it is making “significant efforts” to bring an end to the conflict in Gaza, which has caused widespread destruction and humanitarian suffering. Hamas officials say they are now awaiting a final response from all involved parties to move forward with the framework.
The proposed deal marks a potentially pivotal step toward ending months of violence in the region, though its final implementation remains uncertain pending official confirmation and broader consensus. (ILKHA)
