Hamas leaders hold high-level talks in Cairo over Israeli ceasefire violations
A senior Hamas delegation led by Mohammad Darwish, Chairman of the Movement’s Leadership Council, held high-level talks in Cairo on Sunday to discuss ongoing Israeli ceasefire violations and the implementation of the current truce arrangements.
The delegation, which included Leadership Council members Khaled Meshaal, Khalil al-Hayya, Nizar Awadallah, and Zaher Jabarin, along with Political Bureau member Dr. Ghazi Hamad, met with Egypt’s Minister of General Intelligence, Hassan Rashad.
According to a statement issued by Hamas, the discussions focused on the latest developments concerning the ceasefire agreement, the humanitarian and security situation in the Gaza Strip, and the framework for the second phase of the deal currently under negotiation.
During the meeting, the Hamas representatives reaffirmed the Movement’s commitment to fully implementing the first phase of the agreement, stressing that Israeli violations pose a direct threat to the stability of the deal.
The delegation urged the establishment of a clear, mediator-supervised mechanism to ensure that any violations are immediately documented and addressed. Such a mechanism, Hamas argued, is essential to prevent unilateral actions that could escalate tensions and undermine the fragile understanding.
The talks also covered the unresolved issue of Rafah-based fighters, whose fate remains uncertain due to the lack of communication channels. Hamas called for urgent mediator intervention to clarify their status and resolve the matter with the relevant parties.
The delegation expressed appreciation for the continued efforts of mediators involved since the cessation of what Hamas described as the “genocidal war on Gaza.” It also conveyed gratitude to the Egyptian leadership for its sustained role in supporting stability and advancing the negotiation process.
Egypt remains a principal mediator in the ceasefire talks, which aim to secure stability on the ground and pave the way for further phases of political and humanitarian arrangements concerning Gaza. (ILKHA)
