Gaza death toll surges past 52,800 as Israeli bombardment intensifies

At least 33 more Palestinians were killed and 94 others injured in the last 24 hours as Israeli forces continued their relentless attacks on the Gaza Strip, according to medical and emergency sources on Monday.
The latest casualties bring the total death toll since the start of the Israeli onslaught in October 2023 to a staggering 52,862, with over 119,648 others wounded.
The Gaza Health Ministry confirmed that the majority of those killed remain women and children, underscoring the disproportionate toll the ongoing bombardment is taking on civilians.
Since Israel resumed its military operations on March 18, following a temporary two-month ceasefire, at least 2,749 Palestinians have been killed and 7,607 wounded, the ministry added. The renewed assault has devastated densely populated areas of the besieged enclave, compounding the already dire humanitarian situation.
Emergency services report severe difficulty in reaching many of the injured and retrieving bodies trapped under rubble or lying in open streets. This is due in large part to continued Israeli attacks on ambulance convoys and civil defense teams, which are deliberately targeted as they attempt to respond to calls for help.
“The Israeli occupation is not just killing people with bombs—it is actively preventing their rescue,” said a health official speaking on condition of anonymity.
As the war enters its eighth month, international organizations are warning of a looming humanitarian catastrophe, with medical infrastructure largely destroyed, food and water scarce, and over a million displaced Gazans facing famine-like conditions.
Despite repeated international calls for a ceasefire and the protection of civilians, the Israeli assault shows no sign of abating. (ILKHA)
