EU foreign policy chief breaks silence: “Gaza is facing genocide”

European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas openly declared that Israel’s war on Gaza amounts to genocide, and confirmed that its goal is nothing short of full occupation and permanent control of the Gaza Strip.
Speaking during a session of the European Parliament titled “Stopping the Genocide in Gaza: Time for European Sanctions,” Kallas joined growing international voices condemning the Israeli regime’s annihilation campaign against the Palestinian people.
The session, initiated by The Left group, saw Kallas face direct criticism from lawmakers who demanded action, not just rhetoric, in response to Israel’s ongoing crimes. Yet, in a rare moment of institutional clarity, the EU’s top diplomat affirmed that Israel has crossed all legal, moral, and humanitarian red lines.
“This Is Not Self-Defense—This Is Aggression and Expansion”
Kallas rejected Israeli propaganda framing the war as self-defense, stating: “Israel has declared its goal is full control over Gaza. Such actions, including the destruction of infrastructure, indiscriminate killings, and the forced displacement of civilians, are in direct violation of international law.”
She emphasized the deliberate use of siege tactics—starving Palestinians of food and medicine—as a calculated weapon of war, noting, “This blockade has done nothing to protect Israel. It has only undermined the humanitarian order the world once claimed to uphold.”
Kallas cited devastating figures: 90% of Gaza’s population is displaced, survivors are entirely reliant on humanitarian aid, and what remains of Gaza is being erased by the occupation’s bombs.
Call for Sanctions, Not Silence
For the first time, an EU official publicly used the term “genocide” to describe the scale of Israeli atrocities in Gaza. Kallas insisted: “Pressure on Israel must be increased. I will do that myself, as I have many times before.”
In May, the EU launched a formal review of its Association Agreement with Israel, which offers Tel Aviv preferential trade benefits. The review, pushed forward by Dutch lawmakers, may lead to diplomatic and economic consequences for the occupation state. Kallas is expected to present the outcome of that review on June 23 at the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
The Genocidal Toll of Israeli Aggression
Since October 7, 2023, the Zionist entity, fully backed by the United States, has launched a systematic campaign of mass extermination in Gaza. To date, over 185,000 Palestinians have been killed or wounded, with women and children making up the majority. More than 11,000 are missing, countless are buried under rubble, and nearly two million people have been displaced, starved, and besieged.
Entire neighborhoods have been flattened, hospitals bombed, ambulances targeted, and aid convoys blocked—yet the so-called “international community” has largely stood by.
Europe at a Crossroads: Complicity or Courage
Kallas’s remarks represent a potential turning point, but Palestinian rights advocates warn that words must now translate into action. The time for diplomatic niceties and vague condemnation has passed. Palestinians are being slaughtered with European and American weapons, and the people of the world are demanding accountability.
The occupation’s crimes are no longer hidden—they are broadcast live, in full view of the world, and the question now is whether Europe will stand with the victims of genocide, or continue to shield the perpetrators. (ILKHA)
