Erdoğan: Türkiye ready to support new diplomacy for Russia–Ukraine ceasefire
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reaffirmed Türkiye’s active role in promoting peace, diplomacy, and regional stability during his address at the International Forum on Peace and Trust held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
Speaking at the event, President Erdoğan emphasized Türkiye’s readiness to contribute directly to diplomatic initiatives aimed at ending the Russia–Ukraine war.
“We are ready to provide concrete support to diplomatic initiatives aimed at a ceasefire and peace, especially the Istanbul process,” he said, underscoring Ankara’s continued engagement with both parties and its role as a mediator.
Erdoğan highlighted that Türkiye’s foreign policy is shaped by the principles of responsibility rooted in the nation’s history and civilization.
“As Türkiye, with a sense of responsibility instilled by our history, geography, and civilization, we are working with all our strength to ensure the prevalence of peace and dialogue,” he noted.
Turning to the crisis in Gaza, the Turkish president stressed that the involvement of Palestinians is indispensable to any genuine peace process.
“We consider it essential that Palestinians are included in and contribute to all stages aimed at establishing peace. The ultimate goal is a two-state solution,” Erdoğan stated, reiterating Türkiye’s long-standing support for Palestinian statehood.
Erdoğan also warned that the situation in Gaza remains precarious despite the current ceasefire.
“Despite Israel’s ongoing violations, the ceasefire remains fragile. Therefore, strong support from the international community for the process is essential and must continue,” he said.
The forum, attended by international delegates and regional leaders, served as a platform for Türkiye to underline its stance as an active and principled advocate of diplomatic solutions, regional cooperation, and global peace. (ILKHA)
