Death toll rises to 30 in Bangkok bar fire
The death toll from a fire at a music bar in Thailand's capital has risen to 30, while more than 70 people remain hospitalized, authorities said.
Thai authorities said the number of people killed in the fire at a music bar in Bangkok has increased to 30.
More than 70 people are receiving treatment in hospitals, with 24 reported to be in critical condition, according to Bangkok city officials.
The fire broke out late Sunday night at the Rong Beer Na Ladprao bar in northern Bangkok and took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring under control.
Police said many of the victims were found trapped inside windowless bathrooms, where they are believed to have sought shelter while trying to escape the flames.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and are also examining whether the venue complied with building and fire safety regulations.
The blaze is the deadliest bar fire in Thailand in 17 years, prompting renewed scrutiny of fire safety standards at entertainment venues across the country. (ILKHA)
