The Arab League has condemned recent Israeli strikes on Lebanon that killed 11 people and destroyed dozens of homes, warning that the escalation could undermine diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing conflict and further destabilize the region.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the Arab League described the Israeli attacks as “a dangerous escalation” that threatens to derail efforts aimed at resolving the conflict through negotiations.
The League accused Israel of pursuing policies that could prolong the confrontation and undermine diplomatic initiatives intended to reduce tensions.
“Israel’s policies and practices blatantly expose the occupation’s intentions to prolong the confrontations, obstruct negotiations, and impose a new reality on the ground that is completely unacceptable and rejected,” the spokesperson said.
The Arab League warned that continued Israeli military operations could contribute to a broader regional escalation if the international community fails to intervene.
The organisation called on the international community to stop what it described as Israel’s “war machine” and pressure Israel to comply with international obligations.
Particular emphasis was placed on UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for a full cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah and establishes measures intended to prevent renewed fighting along the Lebanon-Israel border.
The resolution was adopted in 2006 following the war between Israel and Hezbollah and remains a central reference point in international efforts to maintain stability along the border.
The latest Israeli strikes have added to the growing humanitarian and security concerns in Lebanon, with civilians among those killed and residential areas suffering extensive damage.
The Arab League said continued attacks risk undermining efforts to achieve a sustainable political settlement and could create conditions for the conflict to spread beyond Lebanon.
The organisation's warning comes amid heightened regional tensions and renewed calls for an end to military escalation.
The Arab League urged the international community to take immediate steps to enforce the cessation of hostilities and prevent further deterioration of the situation, stressing that continued violations could have consequences far beyond Lebanon's borders. (ILKHA)
