Afghanistan: Over 300 recovering drug addicts reunite with families in Kandahar
More than 300 former drug addicts in Kandahar province have successfully completed rehabilitation programs and reunited with their families, Afghan authorities announced.
According to the official news agency of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Bahtar, Provincial Police Spokesperson Mullah Esadullah Jamshidi stated that the recovered individuals, coming from Kandahar city and surrounding districts, underwent an intensive three-month medical treatment and rehabilitation program before being reintegrated into society.
In addition to medical care, the participants received vocational training in tailoring, motorcycle repair, and maintenance of electrical appliances, aiming to ensure long-term recovery and promote economic independence.
The Ministry of Interior’s Anti-Narcotics Department also reported that 161 individuals struggling with addiction were referred to rehabilitation centers across 11 provinces for treatment.
Since coming to power, the Afghan government has strictly banned poppy cultivation and drug trafficking as part of nationwide efforts to combat addiction and its destructive social consequences.
This initiative reflects a continued commitment by Afghan authorities to restore the health and social well-being of affected communities, offering not only medical support but also practical skills for sustainable reintegration.(ILKHA)
