Türkiye welcomes Washington accords between DR Congo and Rwanda
Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement welcoming the signing of the Washington Accords for Peace and Prosperity between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda.
In its press release, the Ministry praised the diplomatic efforts that led to the agreement, highlighting in particular the roles of the United States and Qatar in facilitating the negotiations.
“We welcome the signing of the ‘Washington Accords for Peace and Prosperity’ between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda. We commend the diplomatic efforts of all actors involved in the process, particularly the USA and Qatar,” the statement said.
Ankara expressed confidence that the accords would support a long-term resolution to the conflict in eastern DRC and strengthen stability throughout the wider Great Lakes region.
“We believe that the Accords will contribute to the lasting resolution of the conflict in eastern DRC and to the stability of the Great Lakes Region. Türkiye will continue to support the efforts aimed at promoting peace, security and stability in Africa,” the Ministry added.
The Washington Accords mark the latest international initiative aimed at easing tensions between Kinshasa and Kigali, following years of conflict and regional instability. (ILKHA)
